The Watch will warn you. The Medical Card will save you.

"We're still young and I don't think we need the insurance coverage yet." This is what people often say. What I'm going to say might change your mind.

That night, around midnight, Husband's Apple Watch started blaring. Heart rate alert: 38 BPM. He woke up, squinted at the screen, dismissed it with a sleepy swipe, and rolled over. His wife stirred slightly but didn't fully wake. The watch went silent.

Then it went off again. And again. Every ten or fifteen minutes. The relentless, high-pitched ping-ping-ping pierced the darkness like a smoke alarm that wouldn't quit. The husband groaned. "This stupid thing is broken," he muttered, pulling the covers over his head.

The wife, now fully awake, sat up. "Hey love, it keeps going off. Are you feeling okay?"

"I'm fine," he insisted, his voice muffled by the pillow. "It's a glitch. You know how these gadgets are. I feel perfectly normal. Go back to sleep."

The next morning, the watch showed him the ugly graph: multiple dips into the 30s overnight. He still felt fine. He wanted to just call the clinic and ask for advice. That right there is the part of the story that terrifies me. How many of us do exactly that? We see the warning signs—whether it's a health symptom, a car making a strange noise, or a bill we can't pay—and we just hope it goes away. We rationalise. We delay. We tell ourselves it's nothing.

He went to the cardiologist anyway after his wife insisted, and it turned out as Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVC). The doctor explained it in simple terms: a small cluster of rogue cells in his heart's lower chamber was misfiring, sending chaotic electrical signals. It was like a faulty spark plug in an engine. Left unchecked, it could lead to fainting, or worse, a dangerous arrhythmia. Cardiac ablation was done, almost RM50k of claim fully paid, and insurance covers it all.

I tell this story to every client who hesitates. Every young couple who thinks they don't need coverage. Every healthy single person who'd rather save the premium money. "I don't need it," they say. "Nothing's going to happen to me."

But here's the truth I've learned: the Apple Watch was the alarm. It warned us. It wouldn't shut up until we listened. But the medical card? That was the safety net. It caught us when we fell.

And that's my job. I don't sell policies. I sell peace of mind. I sell protection against the unexpected. I sell the guarantee that when something terrible happens—and it happens to good people every single day—you won't have to choose between your health and your financial future.

Because the watch can warn you. But only the right plan can save you.
